The County government is committed to reduce food insecurity in the county by promoting irrigation in various parts of the county. The County Governor H.E Eng. John Mruttu has taken it upon himself to ensure irrigation project kicks off in Taveta Sub County.

It should be noted the Taveta Sub County is a food basket for not only the whole county but also the coast region at large. Already several water projects in Taveta have been launched in Kasokoni, Kitobo, Eldoro while plans to revamp the stalled Lake Challa water project and Malukiloriti project are under way.

The county government has now launched the Kasokoni Irrigation project that is being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at a tune of 24 million.

The Lake Challa project that is expected be pumped at 40 cubic meters per hour is not only aimed for domestic use, but also see about 4500 acre of land from Taveta to Maktau irrigated.

The county also intends to construct a fruit processing factory in Taveta and invites both local and foreign investors to partner with the county government.

At the same time the county government will construct a 15 kilometer dyke from Kimorigo to Lake Jipe to avert frequent floods in the area.
